Eid is just around the corner! In fact, Muslims in the western hemisphere are already attending special Eid morning prayers!

Just like Eid ul Fitr two months before, this will be another historic Eid. Muslims across the globe are now participating in “big” Eid rituals. Unfortunately COVID-19 is spreading faster than ever and due to the constant news cycles and endless media feeds covering the virus, people have become fatigued of anything related to the virus.

It is important to note that the virus is still out there and when it comes to festivals and celebratory events, we must remain diligent and on guard. As the virus cuts through countries, infecting the young, old, healthy and ill, all of us celebrating Eid will be especially vulnerable to the virus as there will be plenty of opportunities to interact with numerous people.

It is therefore of the utmost importance that we maintain social distancing. Masks should be worn both inside and outside. One should wear a glove on the dominant hand, if social distancing is not culturally acceptable or possible in the circumstance. One must also be careful to main distancing when talking and when eating, separate utensils should be utilized. For morning prayers, one should take a separate prayer mat with them.

Eid is one of the most important occasions in the Muslim calendar year. Due to COVID-19, Eid this year will be a little different. By following the rules and regulations of where we reside, we can all have a fun, enjoyable and blessed. Eid Mubarak everyone!
