Education opens our eyes to ideas, perspectives and knowledge that had remained hidden before. Though there might be some discussion on the importance of college and post secondary education, there is absolutely no doubt about the importance of attaining an elementary and basic education. Literacy, the ability to read and write is absolutely crucial to living a prosperous life in the 21st Century.
I recently wrote an article on the need for a school in this remote village in northern Pakistan called Sandoka. I am very pleased to announce that the work on the school has begun after successful discussions with the elders of the village. It will be an elementary institution built for the children of six villages in Swat, Pakistan. Sandoka, is isolated and remote and these children have never set a foot in a classroom before. Ever. This school will be the first opportunity where they can focus solely on learning and attaining a quality education.
It is hard to put into words how elated I feel as I get started on this project. It has taken months of planning, multiple visits to Sandoka, long discussions and conversations with elders, surveying the spot for the school and getting started on a construction plan! I am so thankful for having this unique opportunity to spread education to the most remote and isolated parts of the world.
